Translation of El Shaddai
Hi everybody:

I've just gotten some song lyrics and I need your help please.
I have Michaels Card's song: El shaddai but there's a short part that as far as I know is in Hebrew, pls if you know the meaning of those words let me know:

El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
El-Elyon na Adonia,
(what does this mean?)

Age to age You're still the same,
By the power of the name....
(no problem with this)

El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
Erkamka na Adonai,
(what does this mean?)

We will praise and lift You high ...

Thanks a lot

Re:Translation of El Shaddai

Hi Rafael,

I was looking for that information in your message archives, and I ran across this one, which sparked my interest, and since I didn’t see any response posted, I went and got a fair answer for you:

Browsing the Internet, I found the Following translations of those puzzling words:

El Shaddai = God Almighty
El Elyonna Adonai = God in the highest, Oh, Lord
Erkahmka Adonai = We will love You, Oh, Lord

This was not any kind of an academic web site, but in the context of the song, I think these translations make good sense. I would be willing to trust them.

Talk to you later,

Re: "erkamka" translation correction
It is often erroneously stated that "Erkahmka Adonai = We will love You, Oh, Lord". This "erkamka" is a butchery of Hebrew ארחמך [er'Hham'kha] meaning 'i will love you'. This occurs in Ps 18:2. The root is resh.Hhet.mem and relates to compassion, softness, and relates to the word for womb. See BDB or Strong #7355. The stress is on the last syllable [er'Hham'kha].
