Re:The finnish language
I believe it's origin is Latin. But I'm not 100% on that.

Hi! it's no from Latin (!). Latin comes from indoeuropean languages and finnish doesn't. With Hungarian and Basque, these are the only 3 no-indoeurpean languages in Europe.

Re:The finnish language
Finnish acutally belongs to the Finno-Ugric family of languages which also includes Estonian and Hungarian. Nearly every other language spoken in Europe belongs to the Indo-European family of languages which include: Germanic (including all of the other Scandinavian languages), Romance, Slavic, Celtic, and even East Indian languages among others.

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks,Nicole.
That means that if it had a latin root, it would be basically indoeuropean. But still, is there any possibility of it having some kind of connetion with the eskimo language?

Re:Re:The finnish language
Thank you both for your contribution.I've been doing some reading and it's definitely non-indoeuropean.I haven't been able to get the actual root, though. So if ther's anybody who can enlighten me on the subject, you're welcome.

Hello from Finland!
Finnish language, also called Suomi, member
of the Finnic group of the Finno-Ugric
languages. These languages form a subdivision
of the Uralic subfamily of the
Ural-Altaic family of languages.

I don't understand a word of Hungarian but
Estonian sounds very familiar.
