My name is Chuck. I am interested in learning Mandarin Chinese. My interest in learning this language is basically for business reasons. At present I have no proficiency in Chinese of any dialect. I am looking to devote one hour per day, monday through friday to learning this language. My husband recently was offered a job in Shanghai. We will be moving towards the end of February and need to gain as much knowledge of the language as possible. Neither of us have any experience speaking chinese so we will be starting from scratch. We both have studied other languages so we know how difficult it can be and how much time is involved. We are hoping to be able to meet twice a week in the evenings after my husband gets off work. We would love to start as soon as possible, it will be very helpful in his job as well as our overall living experience in Shanghai if we can leave with some conversationa l chinese under our belt. My thirteen year old daughter has become very interested in learning Mandarin. She is a beginner. We would consider one or possibly two lessons per week either in our home or within a short drive. Lessons would need to be in the evening or on weekends. A teacher comfortable with and encouraging to a studious 13 year old girl would be most appropriate.

I just spent the last seven days in Taipei and am fascinated with the difficulty of the language and Chinese culture. I am an International Business major and would like to get an internship/jo b in China or Taiwan in the near future.
My proficiency level is beginner. I tried learning the four tones while I was there, but I need professional help.
I would like to be able to have enough grammar and conversationa l skills to get through an interview with a major corporation that offers internships in a Chinese-speak ing country.
I am looking for maybe one to two hours a week for a few months. Maybe more.
I am looking for a teacher that uses the same teaching techniques that are used
In Chinese elementary schools, but with higher standards.
