"Der Dativ ist dem Genitiv sein Tod" - or is starting with grammar to far?! In German you could start with: Hallo, wie geht's? (phrase)

I live in san diego California and I am currently learning spanish and german. I can speak a bit of spanish, the mexican dialect, but I am not able to have a proper conversation. I would like to maybe learn some conversational phrases and regular forms of speaking to people both formally and informally. thanks kindly, Jeremy
