Re:Question about Spanish words for 'you'
My native language is not Spanish, it's German, but I've been practicing Spanish for 3 years and I think I can help you. You say "usted" to an adult or an adolescent from about 16 years. It's the formal form to adress somebody. In German you say "Sie". And "le" is the indirect obeject. It's the formal form, too. Or it's the third person. You say "Can I write you?" to an adult and in Spanish you say "Le puedo escribir?" and if you say "I want to write him" you say "Quiero escribirle" or "Le quiero escribir". You say "tú", if the "you" in your sentence is the grammatical subject (e.g. I help you -- "I" is the subject; "They want to write us a letter" --> "they" is the subject) You say "te", if the "you" in your sentence is the direct object (e.g. "I love you" --> you is the direct object --> "Yo te quiero") You say ti, when you use the indirect object. If you say "I want to write you", then this "you" is the indirect object. And then you say "Quiero escribirte a ti", but mostly you just say "Quiero escribirte", because it is obvious that it's about "you". And you use "ti" when you want to use "gustar"/like. (You like Miguel = (A ti)te gusta a Miguel). Hope I could help you and hope my English is not that bad :D
