I'm 24 years old German student of Computer Science and I'm going to do a working placement near London from October 2007 till February 2008.

i think it depends on the language school that you plan to go to. i heard that beijing language university is not bad for short term courses. alternatively, you might wanna try out beijing university (however, i don't know whether do they provide short term language courses).
if you don't mind going elsewhere, then perhaps you might wanna consider qingdao (my friend who went there for short term chinese course said that the living environment there is quite good).
