Hacer falta es: don´t have me hace falta dinero ó me falta valor, no hace falta nada!
pero en español depende como lo uses puede ser referente a una cosa o a una persona, por ejemplo: tu me haces falta, el me hace falta
Necesitar: To need something, igual que la anterior. Por ejemplo, necesito un auto ó te necesito, necesito un trago!!

America is 12 hours behind China. If we want to have voice chat, we have to make it from 8am to 9am on every Sat. and Sun. What do you think?
My English is ok for some daily communication. I want to learn more about the slangs and culture. I like reading, movies and music. Maybe we can start from that.
How about your Chinese? Have you got any Chinese books? What are they about? I need to know your Chinese level before I can help.

Creo que no hay diferencia... yo los uso indistintamente. Puede que "necesitar" sea más culto que "hacer falta".
Ej: Me hace falta sal. /Le hace falta sal
Necesito sal. /Necesita sal.
