'A bit' consists of an article ('a') and a noun ('bit'). It is often used in the phrase, 'Just a bit', and can be used to express physical quantity or a length of time. For instance, 'I have just a bit of water,' or, 'Can I have a bit of string?' or, 'We waited a bit for our waiter.' It has a number of other uses, such as the noun 'drill bit', etc. It has also been used to define a binary digit.
