| Explanation: | Ranginui (Sky Father) and Papatuanuku (Earth Mother) were once bound together in love. Their children were forced to live squashed between them. There was no light or room to move. Tane Mahuta finally managed to push them apart. The children had light and freedom to move. But Ranginui and Papatuanuku were unhappy, and longed to hold each other again. The rain and mist are a sign of their tears.
