Summarizing my profile, I am a passionate high-tech language teacher with great experience in teaching children and adults. In my current position, I work as a Teacher of Classics in an American Online Latin School , an accredited School by the Western Association of Schools for secondary and university students and on my own as well.At the same time, I have welcomed the opportunity to familiarize myself with the British educational system through the Cover Teacher role in a wide variety of secondary schools in Sussex. Taking this into consideration , I feel that I am in the right place, the right time and the right conditions which gives me a deeper understanding thus allowing me to learn something new every day. With more than 12 years’ experience as a Teacher of Classics, I have gained strong classroom management skills and the ability to build strong mentoring relationships with my students. My background includes teaching Greek , Latin and Writing to culturally and linguisticall y... |

Fluent Latin Speaker and Latin Textbook Author!
I teach Latin, Ancient Greek, Spanish, and English. My approach to teaching all languages is essentially the same, a dual focus on grammar and conversation. The awful truth is that most students who study a language never end up learning it because of poor curriculum and/or teaching. Most ancient language curriculum (Latin, Ancient Greek, etc.) neglects conversation, while most modern language curriculum (Spanish, English, French, etc.) fails to teach the student the basic structure and logic of the language. If a student wishes to gain advanced competence (and enjoy the journey!), then both aspects must be included.
I am the founder and owner of my own Latin tutoring company, which employs a small group of elite Latin tutors and follows three distinct Latin courses for students of various ages. Five years ago I wrote a full-color illustrated Conversationa l Latin textbook along with more than 100 full-color Grammar and Vocabulary R... |

When I propose to teach the Latin language, I try in the first place to inspire in the student that studium (zeal, passion) without which no study of any kind can hope to prosper. Lessons must be lively and memorable. To this end I prefer the Orberg method and an emphasis on speaking, but with five years' experience of a number of teachers, methods and texts, my approach to perfect fluency, above all in reading, is flexible. All points of grammar and vocabulary are covered. |

I have been trying to find something that is so simple that it makes my students say, “Yep, it’s so easy!” I wish I could keep my students loyal, I could educate them, satisfy their needs, stand behind my words, and make that I do everything I say I'm going to do. I try to convey not only an understanding of the language but also an enthusiasm for it, and an interest in the rich study of culture. |

My teaching approach for both Latin and Greek is in realm of a systematic visual paradigm approach, helping students to focus on the norm and the constants, so that the variables that exist in any language are not as burdensome. I offer excellent study methodologies that a disciplined student may readily acquire, including a foolproof method for studying and memorizing vocabulary. |

I believe that no one can truly learn a foreign language unless he/she is comfortable, therefore I strive to create a welcoming, non-judgmenta l environment where the student can actually enjoy language acquisition. I have an arsenal of techniques when teaching, not just reading and writing, but also songs, games, video clips, etc. |

Unlike a lot of teachers of dead languages, I like to emphasize conversation and active use. Besides being much more fun than just reading texts, all evidence points to conversation being the best way to learn a language. Generally speaking, I like to spend 1/3 of the class in conversation, 1/3 in introducing and practicing grammar, and 1/3 in reading texts. No matter how much we're covering in a day--and expect to do a lot of work!--the mood is always fun. Many students have told me they look forward to my class after a long day at work or their usual school, and I know I always have a great time. So if you want actually want to learn a dead a language and have fun doing it, send me a message! |
