  2. How much does it cost?

You pay a small contact fee for each learner you choose to send your contact information to. You only pay once per learner. After you have sent your contact information, all subsequent messages to that learner are free.

There are no other fees. You keep ALL your tuition from your student - 100%!

The contact fee is as follows.
      Price Per Contact
First 3 contacts $1.50 U.S.   (special introductory price)
Subsequent contacts $3.00 U.S.   (regular price)
There are no sign-up fees, annual fees or any other fee. And you keep all your tuition!

To contact your first learner, you must prepay a minium of $12.00 U.S. by creating a contact credits account. Contact credits will be used to pay the contact fee and are valid for 12 months.

This site is absolutely free for learners.

  3. How does it work?

    1. How do I find learners? How do learners find me?

You find learners by browsing or searching the learner profiles.

Once you have found a learner you want to teach, you can send a custom message containing your contact information. The learner will be notified by email of your message, and the contact fee will be deducted from your contact credits account.

If the learner ad is older than 30 days, you can send a standard message for free. We will ask the learner whether he/she is still seeking a teacher. This will help you decide whether you want to pay to send a custom message containing contact information.

      Back to the questions list

    2. How do learners find me?

Learners find you by browsing or searching the teacher profiles. The learner can then send a message that does not contain contact information. We will notify you via email.

      Back to the questions list

    3. What if a learner contacts me first?

Congratulations. A learner is interested in your teacher services!

We will notify you via email that a learner has sent you a message. You will then log into the site to read the message. Based on the message and other information about the learner such as his/her profile and reviews, you must decide whether you want to pursue this potential student.

You can respond to the learner's message in one of 3 ways:
      1. Reply with a custom message that includes your contact information. The contact fee will be deducted from your contact credits account.
      2. Decline the learner's inquiry. We will send a standard message to the learner on your behalf. This is free.
      3. Wait while you contemplate your options. This is free.

      Back to the questions list

    4. How do I know a learner is serious?

You can use the following information to determine whether you want to spend money to pursue a particular language learner.
      1. Inquiry message. If a learner contacts you first, his message should include a brief description of his learning goals and motivations.
      2. Learner profile. There will be a link from the learner's contact message to his/her profile.
      3. Learner Reviews. If the learner has had prior dealings with other registered teachers, you can read the reviews those teachers wrote about the language learner. For example, you may find out that the learner always paid his tuition fees on time.
      4. Teacher reviews. If the learner has prior dealings with other registered teachers, you can read reviews this learner has written about those teachers. These reviews can include messages the teachers have posted in response.

      Back to the questions list

    5. The learner's profile is old. How do I know the learner is still seeking a teacher?

If the learner ad is older than 30 days, you can send a standard message for free. We will ask the learner whether he/she is still seeking a teacher. This will help you decide whether you want to pay to send a custom message containing contact information.

      Back to the questions list

    6. What if a learner does not receive my contact information? Can I get my contact fee back?

Yes, your contact fee can be refunded back into your contact credits account any time before the learner reads your message. Reception of your contact information is verified when the learner logs into the site to view your message. You can use the refunded contact fee to contact other learners.

      Back to the questions list

    7. What if a learner receives my contact information but in the end, does not take lessons from me?

We do not guarantee that every learner you contact will become a paying student. That's why the fee is so low. Even if you have to contact several learners before you get a paying student, you still make your money back in the first hour of tuition at today's rates.

Remember, you are in business for yourself. You keep all your tuition. You establish a reputation in the global language-learning market. You reap the rewards! So some risk is appropriate.

Please see our over 200 teachers/tutors with feedback from happy paying students here.

Don't delay. Establish your global reputation today!

      Back to the questions list

    8. What happens when the learner agrees to be my student?

Congratulations! We wish you and your student a fruitful teacher-student relationship.

You can proceed with teaching your student as you see best. However, we recommend you set clear expectations in terms of learning goals, lessons schedule, tuition fees, payment schedule, cancellation/rescheduling policy, etc.

After you have spent some time with your student, you and your student should return to the site to write reviews of each other. A favorable review can help establish your reputation and add credibility to your services with future potential students.

      Back to the questions list

    9. Should I ask my student to write a teacher review of me?

Yes! Teacher reviews show future potential students that you are an effective teacher. This will help distinguish you from your competition. You can ask your student to write a review at any time.

      Back to the questions list

    10. What if I think the teacher review of me was unfair?

You can add a message to the review to explain your point of view. The student can also add messages. For example, a student may write at a later time that something has improved since the initial review was written. All of these messages will be shown as part of the review.

      Back to the questions list

    11. Can I write a review of my student?

Yes, please do. Good clients should be rewarded. Please include discussions about whether he/she respected the payment and cancellation/rescheduling policy agreed upon.

      Back to the questions list

  4. What price can I charge?

This is entirely up to you. However, your fee should be clear and your student should agree before you start.

Remember, you keep ALL your tuition - 100%!

    Back to the questions list

  5. How will my student pay me?

You can use any method that works for you and your student.

If you teach your lessons from a distance, we recommend you consider the following payment options.

Distance Payment Methods for Your Students
Paypal Send and receive money via email. Available in over 160 countries.

Good: Fast and inexpensive. Free to set up accounts. Transfer is instantaneous. Paypal only charges the recipient a very small percentage on each payment.

Bad: You must be a Paypal member. This should take only a few minutes for most U.S. residents, but it can take several weeks for others.

    Learn more about Paypal here.

Western Union Money Transfer Transfer money between Western Union offices anywhere in the world.

Good: Available in more countries than Paypal. Transfer is instantaneous.

Bad: You must go to the Western Union retail office to receive your money. The sender is charged a significant fee. This fee depends on the office location.

Learn more about Western Union Money Transfer here.

Direct Deposit Your student deposits the tuition payment directly into your bank account.

Good: Nothing to set up. Very convenient if you both have accounts at the same bank.

Bad: If your student cannot access a branch of the bank where you have your account, your student will be charged the inter-bank wire transfer fee. I have found this fee to be usually approximately $35 U.S. equivalents at most banks.

Ask your bank for all the information you must provide to your student.

    Back to the questions list

  6. What payment terms should I set?

This is also up to you. However, it should be clear and your student should agree to all the terms: payment due dates, cancellation/rescheduling policies, etc. before you start.

    Back to the questions list

  7. How are the teachers ranked in the search results?

Rankings are designed to show the teachers who are most likely to provide the best experience to the learner doing the search. The factors that determine your rankings are (in order of importance):
    1. Reviews of your custom lessons by paying students you previously found on this site.
    2. Reviews of your self-study language lessons, quizzes and articles you publish on this site for free.
    3. Amount of contact credits you purchased in past 12 months.
However, all of this can be overridden by a penalty if you do not answer a learner inquiry using either a paid custom message or free decline message within 7 days. This penalty will move your profile down in rankings and add a red "unresponsive teacher" warning label to your profile.

    Back to the questions list

    1. How do I move my profile up in the search results?

In general you always want to do the following:
      • Always respond to a learner inquiry within 7 days using either a paid custom message or a free decline message.
      • Purchase contact credits so you have an active account balance that is ready to be used at any time.
      • When you have a paying student, ask him to write a review of your teaching or tutoring services.
      • Write some self-study language lessons, quizzes or articles that we make available to readers for free.
      • If you become unavailable (e.g. vacation), please remove your profile until you become available again. Edit your profile and set "Activate this ad" to No.

      Back to the questions list

    2. I have not responded to a learner inquiry for over 7 days. What should I do?

The messaging functions continue to work all the same.

If it has not been too long, you should respond anyways, just to be courteous. Otherwise, you should buy some contact credits to kill the penalty that has been applied by the system. The warning label will disappear and your rankings will rise dramatically.

      Back to the questions list

    3. I have an "Unresponsive Teacher" warning label on my profile. How can I remove it?

Just purchase some contact credits. The warning label will disappear and your rankings will increase dramatically as well.
