First of all I am testing the students whether it is a beginner, intermediate or advanced student. It can be done very easily by reading, by dictation etc.
I am preparing the students to the daily school subjects. I am concentrating on homeworks and trying to tackle the problems as we are progessing. This includes dictations, reading, pronounciatio n, grammar, conversation. |

The approach will also depend on the students interests, but essentially I try to add flavour to the lessons, by focusing on culture and geography (of my native country, Portugal) and also try to use original elements such as games, songs, internet sites, etc.
It is my understanding that learning grammar is necessary to understand the structure of a language, but the way it's taught will depend on the student. I believe the best approach is to provide exercices that make the student discover how the language works by himself, this has proven to increase understanding , memory and motivation. |
