From my course work as well as from my personal experience, I have found out that one of the most effective ways to assist students for whom Italian or Spanish is a second language is by presenting comprehensibl e and stimulating lessons which facilitate all learning abilities and involve as many of the senses as possible.
I incorporate a variety of resources to accommodate students via video, audio, and tactile methods. We integrate phonics activities and technologies to facilitate the students’ comprehension and retention of the concepts and language.
My goal is to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to feel confident and to be able to communicate in a natural and fluent way. I focus on commonly used words and phrases that will achieve the greatest level of communicative skills in the shortest amount of time by placing little emphasis on typical words and phrases used in other programs that, while good to know, are rarely enocountered in day-to-day conversation. In addition to the language, I expose my students to the latin world through a network of friends and relatives and watching Spanish television. |

I believe that students feel more satisfied when they get to understand things faster (i.e. to learn how to speak and listen to the native speakers soon rather than learning a lot of grammar).
Nonetheles s, if you are learning a language for academic or professional purposes it is good to learn a lot of grammar. I like to incorporate dialogs where the students can learn useful phrases (for daily use), vocabulary, as well as grammatical aspects. |
