I would like to learn German mainly for career advancement but also because living in the BVI I'm afraid there are not so many intellectual challenges for me, except at my workplace and it would be a nice change to add some learning that I want to do, not necessarily that I have to do. My level for German is absolute zero. Other than the fact that they have 3 genders for nouns like my native language (which does not bode well for the grammar) I don't know anything about German. I would have preferred to have lessons in person, but due to the place where I live the lessons will have to be through video calls. The first foreign language I began to study was French and my second was English so it will not be my first attempt to learn a foreign language. My English is a lot better than my French for many reasons but I think an important one is the approach to learning the 2 languages. With French I learnt the grammar first and by the time I wanted to actually say something all the rules would start a battle for dominion over my brain and cause me to become completely inarticulate. With English it went a bit different than that and I think the balance between vocabulary and grammar learning was an important reason for that.
Also I work in audit so I'm not likely to give up the first time I meet a challenge. This also means that my time is limited so I would probably only be able to schedule one session each week.
