I spent three months in Egypt and, at the time I left, I was able to converse at an intermediate level. I haven't practiced in 5 years, though. I need intensive Arabic study for the next month in preparation for the State Department language exam. Should I pass that exam, I will have a greater chance of entering the Foreign Service. I need to focus exclusively on speaking and conversation, as that is what will be tested. I intend to treat this as a part time job, ideally with as much as 20 hours per week of Arabic speaking. As far as what I am looking for in a teacher, I am open to different teaching styles.

I am a beginner and dont know how to speak egyptian at all not even a little bit and I want to learn this language because I would like to become a arciologist and I am vary interested in the egyptians and I think it would be so much fun to learn their language. I would like to learn for one or one and a half hours at least 2-3 days a week until I learn the egyptian language. I would like a non strict teacher one who is patient,kind and understanding . I am a 'beginner' in Egyptian Arabic and can 'get by' with what I know. I have learned quite a bit via in-car CD's, but need spoken conversation. I have travelled to Egypt many times and will go with a group (my group-my business is travel) again in June. I want to be conversationa lly proficient by that time.
I can dedicate about an hour a day, sometimes 2 or 3 , depending on my schedule.
I need a teacher who speaks English well enough for me to understand. I have no requirements beyond that.

I am a very basic beginner. I chose to learn Arabic because I would like to be involved in foreign diplomacy in the Middle East and North Africa. I am also studying abroad in Egypt this spring. The most important aspect is the ability to converse, but I would also like to learn basic grammar.
