I have chosen to advance my skills in languages because I am currently enrolled in International Economics and Development at the University of Ottawa. I have taken a great interest in Latin America, thus wishing to learn spanish. Unfortunately I never took the opportunity in highschool to enroll in spanish classes, therefore I am seeking outside help. I am at the beginner stage with no previous background knowledge. I am hoping to dedicate 1-3 hours a week on learning the language, but anything more than those hours will not be possible due to my current schedule with school. During the summer months, however, I will be more likely to put in a greater amount of hours.
I am looking for an instructor who understands the language AND the culture of Latin America. My goal is to one-day create an irrigation system which links houses in rural areas with a water pipe-line. I need to be able to converse with the natives of the land, but also to understand their situtation from more than a textbook discription. I am also looking for someone who as a general interest in ME as a person and cares about my success; someone who knows my name, rather than just me as a number.

I am interested in learning Urdu because i am half Pakistani and I was never taught the language. I would like to become more involved in learning about the culture and knowing the language would make it much easier to do so. I have no previous experience in learning Urdu but I am most interested in learning the conversationa l part of it. I am interested in taking a class once a week for about an hour and a half or so.
