Description |
I love Cambodia. I first went in 2011 and have been going back every year ever since. I've made numerous friends there, and the attachment i have with them has grown exponentially beyond my control. Other than the strong bonds that i speak of, i find that i synergize very effectively with the Khmer lifestyle and at many times i actually feel more alive there than i do back here in Singapore. These two factors have lead me to wonder if i should just live there for pete's sake.
So obviously, i want to learn khmer because i value human interaction and communication more than anything (well, most things). I know a couple of words, and can ask for directions/pr ices/time/etc, all the basic stuff. But i still find it hard to form complete and grammatically correct sentences, something i hope to master eventually.
As my Khmer capability always dips drastically every year when i go back thanks to lack of usage and practice, i think all i need is maybe two lessons a month, just to retain my vocabulary + gradually get better.
I am actually not looking to study written Khmer, YET. The intricacy of it plus the discomforting number of alphabets and vowels slightly discourages me from attempting to learn it, but I suppose i will one day. For now though, just spoken/conver sational for me, thanks.
To that end, i seek an easy-going, patient instructor who can not only be a teacher but be a friend as well, and whom i hope to have lengthy conversations in Khmer with. A teacher who knows all the Khmer colloquial (lai seng hear, yab ah!) and who can teach them to me; who has pissed at the side of the street, eaten balut, visited diamond island like a hundred times, or sihanoukville like 200 times, made a lenghty purchase of cockles from a walking vendor whilst innocently eating more off her cart, bought 1000 riel bai saek truk and 3000 riel mee cha, and who actively supports the opposition and has been in at least 3 demonstration s.
In short, i am seeking a true Cambodian.

Description |
I want to learn how to Speak Cambodian because I was born in the U.S. and do not speak the language very well. I am only limited to a few Cambodian words and phrases and would like to speak more fluently in in conversationa l atmosphere. Sometimes when my mom speaks to me in Cambodian, I only understand about 20% of what she says. My husband is Chinese/Mexic an but he cannot speak either language fluently. We would both like to learn a language together so that we can teach our child (when we decide to have one.) We decided it would be best to learn Cambodian so that both he and I can converse with my family.
We both work full time jobs but would will dedicate time to study either online or in an actual classroom course. We went to the bookstore to find some Cambodian books and learning material but have found there are few and are catered for more intermediate learners. We want to find a teacher who will be able to give us specialized attention as we want to learn the language quickly and efficiently.
