I will be spending six months in Bangladesh from September and would like to get started learning basic Bengali for a two-month period starting July. My level is beginner, and I would like to learn the structure and grammar of the language, with an emphasis on writing and pronounciatio n. Conversation I can then work on when I'm in the country! I would like to meet three times a week for one or two hours. From my teacher I would like some previous experience and a structure for learning for an absolute beginner.

I speak very little Bangla, and am looking for a teacher that will effectively and efficiently teach me to converse as fluently as possible. I will be moving to Bangladesh and need to be able to speak as well as possible. Teachers should be prepared and able to adjust their teaching style in order to meet the needs of a beginner. Expectations should be high but reasonable as well. I would be willing to dedicate quite a few hours a week (especially during the summer) to my lessons, as I wish to learn as quickly as possible.

I am hoping to learn Bengali. I am a complete beginner. I have tried o self teach with a book but found the organization of the book to be a problem. I would like to learn for fun and interest. I would like to be able to speak at a conversationa l level and read literature if possible. I read some bengali in translation and I would like to eventually be able to read the original. I am more interested in feeling a grasp of the language as opposed to learning speedily. Understanding grammar is often more important to me than simple memorization of phrases. I can only dedicate one or two nights a week to formal lessons. I am looking for a teacher with patience and a little flexability as I am a working geologist and travel for work from time to time. I would need to be able to reshedule or cancel lessons a week in advance due to travel. I don't mind online lessons, but I would prefer a teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area so that I would be able to do live lessons from time to time.
