Hi, I'm working as nurse. I want to learn mandarin because it is an advantage in my career if i can speak other languages, since i have to interact and converse with lots of people, particularly my patients and collegues. It'll make my work more effective if i'm able to speak it fluently.
I' m a beginner. Used to learn mandarin when i was in standard 3. Bt then that was all about it. It was really basic. Actly, i like cantonese more than mandarin, cuz i think my tongue can pronounce it better than mandarin. Plus, i learn them mostly by watching dramas on tv,n from my friend.
So teachers, if u r having classes near my area, do giv ur feedback! than you!

I am writing on behalf of my son who is 14 years old. he learned Mandarin when we were in Beijing for 2 years. He is quite fluent in speaking but needs to develop both reading and writing. He took HSK 1 in May 2008.
He is preparing for GCSE (UK qualification ) in Chinese as a Foreign Language. Our aim is for him to achieve a top grade. We are working towards a good command of the language (HSK 6-8) before he is 18.
Curren tly, he is taught by a Beijinger working here in Abu Dhabi, alhough she will be returning to China shortly. he is also a stiudent with Jenny Tang who also advertises on this site.
He responds well to 1:1 or small group work. He is a typical 14 year old and so responds well to variety in teaching and task setting. The Beijinger is not a professional teacher but has been excellent in establishing a rapport and good working relationship. We are looking for someone who is sensitive to the learning styles of western students, although initially my son learned in a Chinese school.
We need to find a good working solution quickly.
