I want to learn Chinese (Mandarin) because I want to work in Singapore. I'm an advertising professional working in one of the biggest TV networks in the Philippines. Being in the communication s business, I need to master whatever language my target market is using. I'm basically bi-lingual, highly proficient in both English and Filipino. But since I want to work in Singapore, I need to learn and master their second language, which is Mandarin. I've been trying to teach myself the basics of the language with the help of a few audio books. But I think a good language tutor will greatly help me jump start my understanding of Chinese-Manda rin.
I guess what really motivates me to learn Chinese-Manda rin--perhaps, more than the need to learn the language for employment purposes--is my desire to read Sun Zi Bingfa in the original Chinese text. I have about 17 English translations of what I consider to be the best strategy book ever written.

My son lives in China. He lives in Tonglu where English is not spoken. I would like to have a basic vocabulary so that I don't need his company everywhere. I will be going at the end of June . I realise this is not much time but if I am picking the language up I will continue with lessons on my return.
