Description |
I have just finished one years worth of college chinese (mandarin). So I am about the proficiency level of a high school student who has taken four years of chinese and work hard at it. We used the two text books 'Integrated Chinese' Level 1, Parts 1 and 2. They both focused on dialogues with only a few narratives. I am trying to find a class to learn all of the the 2nd year of college chinese so that I will be able to start the 3rd year of chinese in the fall. My college (UCSD) cancelled all but 1/3 of thier 2nd year chinese class that they were offering this summer.
If you can help me, let me know. I am looking to take classes in groups of 10 or more. I am looking to take classes from 4-9pm at night on weekdays (or 5-9pm). I have up to $1500 to pay for the whole summer or maybe... $1000 for 2/3 of the summer (i.e. ~6 weeks).

Description |
Hi my name is ShuJen Y. Walker, and I am interested in learning Mandarin Chinese, because it is a part of my heritage. My mother is Taiwanese, which makes me half Taiwanese. I have taken 2 Semesters at San Diego City College about 3 years ago. My family and I recently took a trip to Taiwan for 3 weeks to visit relatives. I had a really great time seeing my cousins for the first time in 15 years, but the only problem was the language barrier. I tried to study what I learned in school before I went, but I realized that I had forgotten most of it. This to me was very disappointing . I am really interested in speaking Mandarin Chinese fluently and I'm looking for a tutor to help me accomplish this. I am looking for a teacher who focuses mostly on speaking the language fluently. I also have a sister who is interested in learning Mandarin Chinese as well. So it'll be two of us ready to learn.

Description |
I've never studied Arabic, but I would like to start learning this summer. I catch on to languages quickly, and I used to be proficient in french. I have an undergraduate degree in Anthropology and I'll be starting graduate school for an MBA this year, but I will also be applying to graduate school for Anthropology once my MBA is done. Since my anthropologic al interests lie in Africa, I feel I need to be proficient in both French and Standard Middle Eastern Arabic when I apply. I'd like to have a tutor/teacher at least twice a week for an hour (more if the teacher feels it is better or necessary) for the summer and possibly as often or less often during my school year. I'd prefer lessons in person combined with homework (I LOVE homework, particularly in languages), with a strong focus on all the language methods (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) since my use of Arabic will be both academic and practical. I tend to catch on to writing forms more quickly and easily than listening, with speaking somewhere between the two.

Description |
I am currently studying Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, and while I'm home on summer break, I would like the opportunity to practice and continue studying either one (primarily Mandarin Chinese though). I would consider myself low intermediate or high beginner. I'm learning foreign languages for future job opportunities and travel. I need improvement mostly in speaking and most particularly listening. My tones are not so good in the little Mandarin I speak, and I would like to improve this. I'm willing to dedicate as much time as possible to language lessons with negotiable prices. I want private one on one lessons with a native speaker, and I am looking for a patient teacher who will be in the San Diego area willing to teach Mandarin in late June and early July.
