I am currently studying Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, and while I'm home on summer break, I would like the opportunity to practice and continue studying either one (primarily Mandarin Chinese though). I would consider myself low intermediate or high beginner. I'm learning foreign languages for future job opportunities and travel. I need improvement mostly in speaking and most particularly listening. My tones are not so good in the little Mandarin I speak, and I would like to improve this. I'm willing to dedicate as much time as possible to language lessons with negotiable prices. I want private one on one lessons with a native speaker, and I am looking for a patient teacher who will be in the San Diego area willing to teach Mandarin in late June and early July.

I am wanting to learn my native language, because everyone else in my family knows it. I also want to learn because of a business opportunity is coming up and most of my clients would be Japanese, and I want to earn their respect and trust. I am a complete beginner because my parents only spoke in Japanese when hey didn't want me to know what they were taking about. Plus I have grown very fond of the latin culture so I took spanish in high school. I want at least 2 hours a week and 6 would be my max. I want to learn very fast but I do know it will take time.

I am almost a complete beginner in Chinese. I did take
one very short class(4 weeks) at UCSD extension that covered
piny in, numbers, basic grammer, basic phrases and a limited
voca bulary. I am looking basic conversation skills with
my co-workers and to eventually I would like to gain
enough skill to converse in Mandarin for business. I
think I need to work on listening comprehension and
conversatio n. I live and work in the UTC area so someone
clos e by would be ideal. I would probably like one or two
meetings a week for about an hour. Price is a bit of an
issue, the $35 rate listed by some here and on craigslist
i s too hgh for me to afford twice a week.

I only speak English, so I am the definition of a beginner. I am also a Christian with degrees in journalism and history, and I also minored in Arab international relations at San Francisco State University. I believe in the importance in communication and sadly, there is so little of it in the world today despite the fact we live in the so called 'information age.' I want to be able to join others in promoting peace and understanding within various communities between people of various faiths. People don't understand eachother and cast evil eyes on one another because there is fundamental breakdown in communication . I communicate. I work full time, but I am willing to spend whatever time is necessary to learn Arabic. I realize this will be a demanding task, so I wish to study under a demanding teacher who knows when to crack the whip, push me and have high expectations, but at the same time, I would like my teacher to tell me when I'm performing well or making progress.
