I am a student at Mount Royal College and I am am enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts Spanish program. I have been taking Spanish courses from highschool until now. Up until this semester, I have not had too many problems understanding written spanish. However, now that the courses are becomming more orally based, I am beginning to struggle a lot. I am up to an intermediate spanish in school but I am beginning to think that I am perosnally more of a higher beginners level. My written Spanish is not bad, and I can read Spanish pretty good as well, however, I cannot understand people when they speak it and I cannot put sentances together in my head and then say them. If anything, I also struggle with verb tenses and conjugation. I am just realizing that I need to aply myself in other ways other than my manditory classes if I am to ever learn how to speak Spanish fluently. Although I am very busy with work and school, I am prepared to dedicate 2 nights a week to private Spanish lessons. I need one on one attention. I also need a teacher with lots of patience because, as of now, it appears I may know a lot less than I thought I did.

| Description |
I'm interested in learning Spanish because I would like to visit Spain in the future. I also am thinking about looking for a job in Spain so it would be a plus if I can speak Spanish. I have never studied Spanish before though I'm fluent in English and have studied French and Hebrew in the past. I have no experience in Spanish so I'm looking to start from zero. I'm very flexible during the evening and prefer a live one on one teaching or in a small group.

| Description |
This past December my family and I went on vacation to Spain. After having lived in Spain and Mexico for quite a while and still not being able to have a conversation during this past vacation, I felt like I wasted a lot of my life. While we were on a cruise that departed from Barcelona, we visited many places like Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt--places that I had always dreamed of seeing--but none of those places had the at-home feeling of Spain. My mother had lived in Barcelona many years back but it was my first visit, and even in an unknown city, the mere fact that it was in Spain gave me the feeling like that of being at home in the States. For some reason Spain is just really comfortable, and I would like to be able to live there one day and be able to speak Spanish.
Even though I said I felt like I wasted some of my life, I was actually surprised at how much Spanish has remained with me. My vocabulary is quite good--not sure exactly how many words, but I am having no problem understanding a large portion of this Spanish novel. Probably I am somewhere in the intermediate range.
But in terms of speaking I do not have much experience. Speaking is the number one area in which I would like to improve. If someone could somehow get me speaking and continue to motivate me to speak then that person would be the perfect teacher.
My dream teacher and I would spend several hours a week speaking about everything including current events, travel, movies and books, and even religion and politics if those topics are not too personal. The more time spent purely talking the better. One of my fears, though, is feeling bad because I feel that my teacher wants to move along while I am trying hard to say what I want in Spanish. Above all else I need a teacher who is patient and who forces me to talk only in Spanish, at least as much as is possible.
I also hope to learn other Romance languages, like Italian and French.
