I am an adult learner. I am Croatian and have recently found my relatives in Croatia. They all speak and write in English but I do not speak Croatian. I communicate with the 50+ generation by e-mail and the younger cousins by Facebook. I want to learn Croatian because I am planning to visit Croatia and all my relatives. I want to suprise them by knowing a little bit or as much as I can learn before October 2009. I am a beginner. I know nothing.

I am very curious in learning Croatian because my boyfriend is Croatian, and we have plans to go there this summer. His parents might come to the states in May, so I would also like to be familiar with the language to be able talk with them. I pretty much live at my boyfriends apartment, due to school, and him being right here on campus, so I am constantly around the language, because his roommate is also croatian. I am familiar with some words/phrases , and have downloaded some programs to start doing it myself, but I know I will need extra help, and I would just prefer a tutor because my boyfriend and my schedule are hectic, so I would just like to have a set time I'd know I'd be able to dedicate to learning. You seem very reliable and patient, and thats what someone learning something new should have: reliability and patience. I know, because I am a tutor myself in math. I would like to meet at least two or three times a week, depending on my school schedule, times may vary.

Hello. I am very interested in taking Croatian lessons from you. My husband is from Croatia and we plan on moving there in the nest 3-5 years. I have started learning a little from a CD program but I would like to actually learn in a classroom setting from an experienced tutor. I would eventually like to speak Croatian fluently, however at this time I would just like to be able to carry on general conversations with his family in their native language. Depending on the price, I would like to devote several hours a week to learn the language. I would like a tutor who is fluent in Croatian as well as English, with great patience and teaching skills. I am studying the Croatian language in order to conduct research in Croatia for my doctoral dissertation. With over three years of language and area studies under my belt (including a summer course in Zadar, Croatia, in 2009, and preliminary research in Zagreb in September 2010), I have progressed to an advanced-inte rmediate level of proficiency. While my reading and writing are quite good, my listening and speaking skills could use work. In particular, I have trouble with listening comprehension , in part because my vocabulary is still limited. For the duration of my fieldwork in Zagreb (most likely from July 2011 to February or March 2012), I would like to take weekly private lessons with a teacher who can help me progress more quickly in the language. Having exhausted all levels of the Croatian language at my university, I believe I need one-on-one, intensive instruction tailored to my capabilities and deficiencies in order to advance beyond my current level. This is crucial, as my project depends upon conducting interviews and reading texts in the Croatian language.

I have been looking for someone that teaches Croatian for me and my husband. My husband's father is from Croatia and he knows the language somewhat. I would consider myself a beginner and my husband knows conversationa l basics. It would be ideal to be speaking the language by our next trip to CRoatia to visit his family, sometime next summer.
