I learned Mandarin while living in Taiwan. Since then, I've felt very strongly that I want to master as many East Asian languages as I can (Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Etc.) I would rate my Mandarin ability fairly highly--maybe 7.5 or 8 out of 10. My accent and tones are almost always spot on (I've been mistaken for a Chinese person over the phone and sometimes in person when I'm not seen right away). By biggest focus is improving my understanding of the grammar and expanding my vocabulary. I have virtually no experience with Cantonese or Korean and am currently studying Japanese in school.
As I am a full-time college student, I am somewhat limited in terms of time and money, but somewhere around one or two hours a week would be fantastic. I feel there's time for a substantial amount of material to be learned, but also plenty of time to review it all. I would like personalized lessons, but also structure which allows me to ask questions on the one hand, and learn from useful, prepared material on the other.

So lately I've been realizing that I'm having a harder and harder time communicating with my parents. On top of that my language marks at school are not the best, so I decided it's time to fix this on going problem at the source. This is going to be my first time learning a new language and I'm really looking forward to this learning opportunity. I don't work well under pressure so I guess the only quality I want in a teacher is that they can use a soft voice while teaching me new words and concepts. I hope learning Cantonese is going to be a fun experience for this eager youngster!
