I am a complete beginner for learning Chinese.
M y company is moving me to Beijing in mid January 2006 and I am keen to learn the rudiments of the language before arriving.
Now on holiday between postings I can do daily lessons if possible.

I used to be fluent in French but I have no training in German. I would like to learn to speak, read and write in German proficiently enough that I can translate documents for my honours thesis beginning in 2007.
It is mainly for academic reasons though I love Germany and plan on spending much time there in the future.
