I have no experience in Malayalam aside from the few words I have picked up from my boyfriend's parents. However, I have extensive background in other languages (Greek, Latin, German) and am used to the challenge of learning a language.
I am interested in learning Malayalam because my boyfriend and I will be getting married in about a year or so and I would like to be able to speak more easily with his family and their friends. All of them are Keralites. My boyfriend never learned, but he can understand -- otherwise, I'd have him teach me.
I am most interested in conversationa l skills first, but I also enjoy looking at the structure of a language. I am willing to devote several hours a week to lessons.
I know that Malayalam has a separate alphabet, which I would also like to learn, and that the grammar is very complicated. I don't have any specific types of lessons in mind -- I'm just looking for an easygoing teacher who is comfortable enough with Malayalam to teach someone else about it.

I am trying to learn Malayalam. I am currently a beginner with limited knowledge. I am learning because my husband and all his family speaks. I would like to learn so that I can understand and participate when we are with friends and family who are speaking Malayalam, also so that I can teach our baby.
I can spend some time every day studying and working with the language. I am looking for a teacher who is patient.
