I'm learning Russian because I am planning to begin a PhD studying Russian writers in 2014. My level is very basic - I've never had lessons before but have taught myself some Russian online. I am Filipino, living in Pasig City (near Ortigas Center). Russia is a mystery to me. That part of the world has always intrigued me since I was young.
I have been to Russia twice in 2011/2012 and I want to traveling to Russia and be able to speak with the locals there. I had difficulty in communicating because no one spoke English. I want to learn the rudiments of the language, the rules and foundation and conjugation of words, the country, lifestyle, the business climate, the culture, the entertainment , customs, traditions, social rules, expectations and etiquettes, and others.
Pl ease do provide me with information regarding:
> definition of a 'lesson'? Does it depend on me? Is it 1 hour? 1 hour and 30 minutes?
> Please include cost of the entire programme. I want to know cost of the whole package (number of lessons or hours to be devoted in the 'Beginners' module, 'intermediate ', etc..) so I can budget.
> After studying, what happens next? do I need certification ? I think it is only proper to be certified and getting this info from my teacher will be very useful. Passing exams will make me more valuable in the workplace because I will have language skills no others in my sphere possess.
I learn Russian through books, PDFs, video tutorials and I am not improving because of this. I am getting frustrated and the language schools charge steep prices I cannot now afford.
I also want to say that I know myself as a learner. I definitely do want learning that incorporates: music, entertainment , use of jargons, everyday words and also being able to know business terms (business russian) and hotel/travel terms (hospitality russian). I already know Japanese and Korean and I learned these two languages in these ways.
I am looking for a teacher who is very patient, cheerful, guides and motivates me to learn, never in a hurry, gives me her focus, gives me lessons in a structured manner and builds lessons through and through, gives me exams, seatworks, take-home assignments and drills and repetitions so it sticks with me. Where learning is balanced with formal and informal.
Lastly, I want a teacher who can teach me about: russian history, music, entertainment , the evolution of the language beginning from the Old Church Slavonic, and how Russian language differs (or similar to) its neighboring countries and regions such as Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Macedonia, Dalmatia region, Bulgaria and the Baltic States of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. I want a teacher who gives me these and not just the language. Yes, I know, I can also learn these things on the side and on my own, but I also want to learn it from a live person... culled from her travels, experiences, etc.
Ahh, this is important, too: I also want her to make me learn and understand business Russian and Hospitality Russian because those are the fields I want to work in in the future.

I'm a French undergraduate student and I am following a 1-year exchange program with Fudan University. I'm totally beginner in Russian, but I want to apply for a dual-degree Sciences-Po (Paris, France) - MGIMO on energy issues, and I have to speak fluent Russian in order to do so.
In a first time, I need help for all the basis (grammar, vocabular...) , but also to improve the fluency of the spoken language. I'm very motivated to improve my capacities.
That's why I'm searching a 3 hours / week size, or two 90-minute lessons a week.
