I am requesting to learn the Persian language, Dari specifically, because I am pursing the Southwest Asia Area for Graduate School. I have applied to two specific Graduate Schools in that area of interest and have applied to the USAID to work in Afghanistan. I come from an extensive Military background. I deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. I had the honor to work on education development in Afghanistan, and developed a passion for the country. This is my passion in life and I am wanting to prepare for school or vocation.
While I worked in Afghanistan, I learned some specific phrases. Most of the time, however, I used an interpreter for translation.
I would need to start at the beginner's level.
I will dedicate up to three hours per a week for lessons, and as many required per a week for studies.
I am looking for a teacher that can understand my learning pace and can develop the teachings around it.

My husband and I visited Malawi in the summer of 2009 for a two week mission trip and plan to return in the summer of 2011. We are both very proficient on the computer and have time to learn Chichewa with both taped lessons and via the internet. We both would like to become more fluent in the language before our return trip. We were a part of a group of 5 adults from our church and learned only simple beginning phrases which we did not use much. All 5 members are interested in learning the language, however, I am not sure if all 5 want to use this method. We need to know a bit more about how this system works and the costs involved.

I am just beginning to learn Dutch as one of our sons now lives there. I will dedicate as much time as possible to make progress. I am an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, so I don't have too much time but I am a dedicated learner. If a teacher is available in my area, I would like to speak with him/her first so as to set up some criteria for their enjoyment and my learning.
