I have always been interested in learning languages since I think it is the key to understanding cultures, and therefore, people. I am a fluent speaker of English, and completely conversant in Konkani, Kannada and Hindi. I have also dabbled in German and Spanish.
What interests me most about Mandarin, Japanese, and other such languages(bes ides the people) is the idea of a pictorial type of script, unlike the phonetic alphabet system that I have encountered in all the other languages that I have knowledge of. I picked Mandarin because I think I would prefer to learn a language that has over a billion speakers.
