My husband and I are both 57 years old. Our children have left home, and we have an empty bedroom. We live in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, near Germantown and Manyunk in a medium-size house.
I would like to practice Chinese because I majored in Chinese in college and I would like to revive it so that I can go to China or teach Chinese to American children. I have forgotten most of what I learned, but it may come back quickly.
W e are offering a room in exchange for conversationa l practice and a little help with Chinese lessons. By 'little help,' I mean half an hour three times a week. We would expect this person to be neat as well as help dust and sweep the first floor. We will discuss how to work out meals and food.
We live about half a mile from a bus stop on Ridge Ave. in Phila.

I am an English teacher in Nanning in the Guangxi Provence.

At this time I am a beginner and only have a vocabulary of about 6 words.
I would like to be able to at least hold a very basic conversation and be able to ask for things when at a shop etc.
I am a mature male of 46 years and feel I am not picking up the language at a pace I would like ... it is a struggle for me

I have just finished a Masters degree in Scotland and I am coming to the end of a two month stay in Harbin, China. During this time I have picked up only minimal mandarin as learning the language was not the goal of my visit.
However, my visit has been enough to spark a real interest. When I return home I will begin a phd based in Leeds. eventually I would like to return to China for further travel/work as I have enjoyed my stay here.
I would like to learn a second language and I feel Mandarin would be an interesting and challenging choice.
I am looking for a friendly teacher who speaks standard Chinese. I think around 2 hours of lessons a week would be managable however, it would be ideal if a teacher was able to be flexible in terms of a changing schedule.
I would like to learn written chinese as well as conversation and grammer.
