I am interested in learning (brazilian) portuguese because I have started training in Capoeira. I am a beginner and have never taken a language class. I am a nanny to a 4 year old and 18 month old boy whose mom is from Brazil. The boys are being raised bilingual, English and Portuguese. I have done some Rosetta Stone and have a Lonely Planet phrasebook but I really am more of a written, logical type of student and the immersion technique of Rosetta just doesn't do it for me. I need to learn from a native speaker, hopefully from Porto Allegro area so as to obtain the proper dialect also.
My level of achievement is at the stage of basic commands and questions pertinent to the job, i.e., where are your shoes, time to get dressed, brush your teeth, don't do that!, etc. I would love to surprise my employer by really being able to hold a decent conversation with her in her native language, as well as be able to hold my own when we travel to Brazil every December.
I can devote 3 days a week to my learning and would like to do it on FaceTime or Skype.
