I am a recent university graduate from a US university, where I took Kiswahili with a Tanzanian professor for 1 1/2 years. We did a lot of literature reading and translation, so I feel pretty comfortable reading and writing basic things but my conversation abilities are very lacking, as we did not do a lot of talking. Grammar also needs help, as I forget a lot of it now that I am no longer in school.
I hope to work in East Africa in a year or two, and thus hope to keep up (and greatly improve) my proficiency in the language.
I am willing to dedicate much time and energy to language lessons, however as I am a recent graduate just starting work and trying to pay off school loans, I would prefer a group class if possible so that it could be more affordable.

I am intersted in learning a variety of languages, and am working on a book series for occupational, physical and speech therapists to give them the beginning of functional communication in various languages to improve their ability to provide treatment to a diverse client population. I am interested in Persian, Korean, Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin, and several African languages as well.

I want my kids to be exposed to Mandarin. So, the class would probably include a 2nd grader, a 4th grader and myself. We would like to meet once a week and start with basic vocabulary and grammar.
T he attribute I value most in a foreign language teacher is to be aware of the students' needs and have an effective teaching style; someone who can modify their approach to get the most progress in their students.
