Good Afternoon,
My name is Jennifer. I have been studying and competing in Muay Thai for three years. This summer I am living and training at a camp in Kanchanaburi.
The people here are wonderful.... my coaches, caretakers, etc....I only wish that I could communicate more freely and express my ideas more fully.
I would like to learn conversationa l Thai in order to advance my sports training, be more useful around the house, feel more comfortable in social situations, learn and understand more, and maintain friendships.
At this point I do not feel that it is necessary to learn formal grammatical rules or reading/writi ng skills, unless my teacher feels that it would support my speaking and listening abilities.
I am an absolute novice. I can recognize some basic greetings and words for foods that I like, and some sport-specifi c words.
Beginning in September, I can probably commit to a private lesson once a week. Hopefully this will be enough to build some skill. I am willing to study and practice on my own, though my schedule can be hectic at times and I can't guarantee a certain number of hours per week on that.
In a teacher, I am hoping to find someone patient and consistent. I would rather be very comfortable with a small range of useful vocabulary than to breeze through a pre-set curriculum, study words for a week and then forget them, etc. As a student I learn very well through repetition (I do not feel silly singing if it will help my memory!) and conversationa l practice.

I am going to Thailand in October to train at a couple Muay Thai camps. I have been practicing Muay Thai in the US for over 2 years and I am interested in learning as much of the Thai language as I can before I go. I wish to learn Thai because I would like to visit there hopefully next November. I have never taking the language before so I know nothing. I unfortunately do not own a computer of my own so online courses and computer programs are not an option. I do have e-mail but I usually can only check it when I visit my parents on weekends (like I am doing now).
I was hoping to do weekend classes since I work Monday thru Friday.

I want to learn Thai because I plan on moving there in the not too distant future,and because my girlfriends Thai. Im definitely at beginner status. I need improvement in all areas.
