I have two needs. 1) To teach my recently adopted Russian-born sons to speak English. The oldest is 16, and his needs are the most urgent as I want to prepare him for school in the fall. The other is 5 years old and will be entering preschool this fall. 2) I want to learn Russian so that I can speak with my children in their native language while they are learning English. I believe Russian is a beautiful language. All four of my sons are Russian born, and I would like to make sure they do not lose their language skills (two were adopted as babies and never learned the language).
Proficiency Level: My sons are beginners. They have been here in the states for 2 weeks and have been going to summer ESL classes 4 hours a day, five days a week.
Amount of Time for Lessons: I would like to have in-person training for my sons 3 times a week -- such as Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
I want someone who can speak Russian as well as English so that they can help my children understand better. The ESL teachers in school speak only Spanish and I believe this is ineffective for my children.

I can speak, read and write a fair amount of Russian but I am very much at the novice level. I am not around Russian people that much so I've never developed fluency. I want to improve my Russian to travel to Russian (not as a tourist). I need to learn grammar, inflection rules and conversation. I would like live in person lessons and I am available in evenings and weekends.

Did 4 week intensive course in St. Petersburg in fall 2006. Started as beginner but got all the way to the verbs of motion with prefixes (and their conjugations) - would need some refreshment for sure.
