Hello, my name is Debborrah A Marks. I am a puerto Rican woman who is mixed with black, white, Hawaiian and French. I want to dedicate my time to learning puerto Rican Spanish in order to teach my daughter Spanish too. My husband is not Hispanic, however, I want him to know what I am saying even if he cannot speak the language . I am not picky in who teaches me, however I am comfortable more with women. Thank you.

Description |
I obtained a minor in Spanish in college but that was several years ago. I would say I can have a conversation at an intermediate level. I’d like to get better and more comfortable speaking so that I can be of more assistance at my job. I interview underserved children and their parents and sometimes they are Spanish speaking. I’m particularly interested in having mock conversations about the topics I discuss in the interviews, which aren’t always happy topics. We discuss interests, childhood, and school, which is fairly easy, but we also discuss trauma, abuse, absent parents, and mental health. Those topics aren’t typically taught in a classroom and don’t come up in casual conversation. Any assistance with how to learn to discuss those difficult topics would be most excellent!

Description |
I am 68 years old and I live in Sarasota, Florida. I have lived in Spain twice, 1961-1964 and again in 1967-1969. As a result, I have always felt deeply connected to Spain and to Spanish speaking people in general. As a child, of course, I picked up Spanish quickly and could communicate well enough to function in Spanish society.
H owever, after I left Spain, I rarely used the language again and have forgotten almost everything I learned. Over recent years though, I have tried several times to relearn Spanish but all I have managed to do is learn hundreds of disconnected words and short phases.
Several weeks ago I also began an online language exchange with a woman in Spain. This has been very helpful as she also needs help with her English, but she is not a Spanish teacher. Her English is much better than my Spanish, so we end up speaking a lot more English than Spanish. I think my listening and comprehension level is more advanced than my speaking ability.
A t this point I feel that I need personal guidance from an actual Spanish teacher/tutor . I am retired so my schedule is very flexible.
Gracias y espero que tengas un gran día.

Description |
Hi! I want to improve my conversationa l Spanish for mainly work purposes because I am closely working with the general public. I have also recently moved to a city with a very large Spanish speaking population and I want to be able to communicate with everyone. I feel I am a beginner in Spanish. I struggle with conversations out of fear of being incorrect or saying the wrong things in general. I would like to find a teacher that is available a few times per week via video calls. A teacher with patience, understanding and a good sense of humor would be a great fit for me.
