I am a beginner.
I have used tapes to learn the language but so far no retention. I have attended a university in China with rehearsal of PinYing. I have a difficulty with memorizing characters and would like to ignore characters for now.
I am looking for Day time tutoring as I am in Xian full time towards the end of April.

I lived in Xiamen and Shanghai, China, for a year, but I worked within English-speak ing firms most of the time. So I have a very basic understanding of the language and yet liked to learn and (here's the important thing) USE what little Mandarin I would learn. I loved how the people would really appreciate my effort to speak their language, so now I want to learn how to engage a little more in everyday conversation. I’m not interested in a 'textbook' lesson in grammar or memorizing hundreds of vocabulary words that I won't use; rather, I’m more interested in being able to ask about the prices of products, talk about times, dates, transportatio n-related conversations . I am planning to return to China on a trip in 2006 and would like to have some ability to speak when I get there.

I am newly assigned here in Binondo area Manila as a Sales Manager. I want to learn the dialect/langu age of the people here in my area so I can better communicate and understand them.
I am totally a beginner in this language/dial ect but I am very willing to learn and spend time on this challenging endeavor.
