I am eager to gain a basic proficiency in mandarin chinese. I have been in Beijing for a week. I have come to China to spend time with my son and look forward to spending several months here at this time, with possibility of further return trips. At this time I have picked up just a few words. My languages are English, French and Italian. I find that often sounds in Mandarin are more closely related to sounds in French, which has helped me. I would like to have one on one lessons, for 2 hours 3 times a week, or, other if better recommended. I have a good ear for sounds and mimic quite easily but need much reinforcement to remember! so I enjoy repetition and formulating sentences that are practical for every day life. Finding words in the dictionary I find sometimes frustrating as I can't guess the sounds needed. I would also like help in learning chinese writing so I can understand simple signs etc. Thank you for your interest and reply.

I've had private lessons in spanish once a week for about a year now but my teacher can no longer teach. I've chosen to learn foreign languages as a hobby and have started with Spanish because of my interest in Hispanic cultures and countries. I would like to improve in all areas of the language. I am available Monday nights. I am very flexible when it comes to teaching styles and approaches but ideally i need a teacher who can motivate me and makes sure that I learn well. The course does not have to be fast but should be intensive. I don't mind doing the course with a small group.
Als o, my 5 year old daughter would very much like to learn Chinese, especially writing chinese characters.

I am a beginner/inte rmediate in Chinese and am looking to further my knowledge and fluency of the language for personal interest and incentives for the future.
I would like at least 2 hours worth of lessons per week in between my full-time employment and evenings would be most convenient.
