I am definitely a beginner. I know a few words and phrases, but that's about it.
My fiancee is Vietnamese, and I want to be able to talk to her family more easily, and we want our children to speak the langauge. (So that they can talk to their grandparents. )
I think that one lesson per week would be a good start.
My fiancee has given me lots of impromptu lessons, but we aren't consistent with them. Having a regular teacher would give me more determination to carry on with it. Also, she is perfectly fluent herself.

I am a student at UBC in Vancouver. My parents have just moved to Vietnam, I have been there once before and will be visiting them at Christmas. I would like to impress them with minimal knowledge of the Vietnamese language when I visit. I am looking to take lessons in Vietnamese, preferably something along the lines of 3 hours a week from the beginning September to December. I understand that vietnamese is a difficult language to learn, but I already speak 4 languages fluently (English, French, German and Spanish) so hopefully I should have a feeling for it even if it is completely different. I am used to sitting down and studying hard to learn a new language.

I want to learn Vietnamese because I have a son whose half Vietnamese and I feel that it would be good for him to learn the language and culture of his grandmother.
