I'm an American woman engaged to an Afrikaaner and I very much want to learn Afrikaans, both to speak with him in his native language for fun, and to understand his family on visits. I've had no luck finding either classes or local teachers, so I'm hoping for a tutor to meet with me perhaps once a week. I can do a lot of learning on my own, but need practice speaking and a little accountabilit y to get me going. We could do this via phone or Skype, if need be.

I am a 20 year old university student, wanting to learn Afrikaans because my boyfriend and his family are native Afrikaans speakers - I would love to be able to talk to them in their own language rather than have them always switch to mine.
I am an absolute beginner but am told I pick things up quickly... (wishful thinking on boyfriend's behalf??) I'd like to do at least one lesson a week. I am quite shy so a teacher who is encouraging but also challenges me would be ideal. :)
