I have never studied Chinese before, though I speak nearly fluent Spanish and Dutch. I am contemplating moving to Beijing within the next year, and I need to study fairly intensively before leaving. I don't have too much money to spend on lessons, so I suppose I'd like to have one or two hours a week, with plenty of homework.

I would like to learn Mandarin Chinese with the ultimate goal of working as a translator for the US government. Please advise if my goal is attainable should I immerse myself totally in your class curriculum. And if so, how long of a time frame am I looking at, and at what cost? Your proficiency level: my proficiency level is beginner.
Why you are learning your foreign language: Purely enjoyment. I have been to Mexico, Canada, Iceland, Scotland, Belgium, Germany, Macedonia, Kosovo, Ireland, Panama, Somalia, Egypt and finally Turkey. The reason I decide to attempt to learn Turkish is because when I finish graduate school I’m planning to take a three week vacation in the Western Turkey. Turkey is by far the best experience I’ve had traveling. Just because I’m in graduate school doesn’t mean I will have the necessary time to learn a language.
How much time you want to dedicate to your language lessons: After the first week of May I will be able to maintain six to nine hours a week for language instruction.
What qualities you are looking for in your lessons or in your teacher: I’m looking for an instructor that is relaxed, makes things interesting, but is serious at the same time.
