I'm British born Chinese who grew up speaking conversationa l Cantonese with my parents. I know the basics and have good general vocabulary.
I'm now hoping to develop my conversationa l ability and vocabulary to an advanced level. I cannot read or write Chinese and wish to start learning to write Chinese at a beginner's level. I work full-time, so would to have lessons on one week night each week.

I grew up speaking Cantonese in my house because my grandparents lived with us and they did not speak English. However, to this day I cannot read or write in Chinese. I still feel that my language skills are very beginner. I can make do with minimal conversation skills but I am in need of increasing my vocabulary and learning to read and write. I want to travel to Hong Kong and be able to make my way through the city. I would dedicate a 2-3 hours per week for language sessions. I need someone proficient in both English and Chinese that has good teaching skills and is patient.

Right now I am at an intermediate level when it comes to Cantonese. Both of my parents are Chinese as well as most of my family members. I can get by talking to them, but at a 6th grade level of speech. I need improvement in conversation especially since I will be traveling to China soon and will need to be able to speak at a higher level than I am currently. I don't have much time since I work two jobs, but am willing to put as much in as I can. I am looking for a dedicated, kind, and patient teacher than can help me learn the language.
