I wish to learn Latin because I think it is a beautiful language.
I have never learnt Latin before so I am a beginner, one has to start somehwere!
I am willing or rather i have the time for one lesson per week spanning for an hour or longer if possible.
I am looking for an intelligent dilligent teacher who is willing to guide me through the difficulties of learning a language from scratch.

I would like to learn Latin or Greek because I am studying Philosophy. It seems very beneficial to learn these languages for studying the classics, both for the mind in general and for a more holistic understanding of the writings. It is a dream of mine to read Plato in the original Greek. I have basically no knowledge of either of these languages, aside from the technical terms I have learned within Philosophy classes. Face-to-face contact with the teacher is a must, as learning seldom used languages (in our area at least) online seems like a waste of time. I do not have particular qualities that I seek in a teacher, but some knowledge of classical Philosophy of course would be desirable. From what I know most Latin teachers give St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and other philosophical ly relevant texts to learn from. Otherwise the teacher is the teacher and the student must not demand too much, or else the teacher's job becomes harder.

I have a strong inclination towards more traditional academic languages such as Latin, French and Italian as well as a penchance for literary works in the classical and romantic languages.
Whilst English translations satiate a general curiousity, there is no substitute for the texts of Dumas, Cervantes, Dante and so many other masters than in its natural language with all its nuances and intonations.

I am the Grandfather and my 14 year old granddaughter has a strong desire to be a Doctor. I want her to begin learning latin for her career. She is a willing student. The timing of her studies would begin this summer and be a couple of hours per week and continue thru her remaining three years of high school. Obviously, all would have to be done over the computer or phone, is this possible? I do not expect her to be able to speak fluently unless you think it would be possible.

I'm quite good at English, and my native language is Chinese. So I speak these two languages pretty well. I have learnt a little French but now I'm still pretty bad at it. It would be fun if I can spend this summer vaca in learning languages and playing chess. I'm not really looking for a tutor who plays chess, but it would make you know a little something extra about me.
