Description |
I am a beginner (using Rosetta Stone) in Mandarin Chinese, both for career advancement and because I am genuinely interested in the culture. Been to Hong Kong once, going back soon (although I know HK is canto...)
I'm not interested in writing or reading anything but Pin Yin...I just want to be able to converse.
The reason I'm approaching a tutor is because the program isn't as clear at explaining grammar, or proper sentence structures. So while I can say 'Zhe Ge nan ren zai pao bou', I'm not always sure why I say certain verbs/how they interact with nouns. Not to mention, while the program is an easy way for me to work on my on...I'm sure a live tutor is always better!
My idea was to keep working on my own at Rosetta Stone to learn vocabulary, and pronunciation , then perhaps meet with you once a week to:
1) Review what I learnt and check pronunciation 2) Explain and help me with the grammar regarding verb-noun or basic sentence structure - -> For example, this week I've been learning colours, and some new nouns like 'bike, car, cat' etc. What I'd want to go over with you is how to say 'The cat is black. Those cats are black. The cat is black and white' etc. 3) Practice above concepts as conversationa lly as possible. 4) Perhaps any relevant phrases you can think of --> For example, if during the week I learn the word for doctor, maybe you'd teach me some basic sentences to go with 'doctor' like: 'call a doctor!' etc.

Description |
I'd like to learn Mandarin without any special reason, I just think languages are nice and learning a new one is wonderful. S ince I am in Vancouver I am more confronted with the chinese culture than I am in Germany where I come from and I became interested in it.
My level is that I know nothing apart from asking *how are you?*
I work part time and would like to learn Chinese every free day I have which would be 2-5 days a week.
I'd like a native speaking teacher.

Description |
I am a female. would like to learn Mandarin in order to communicate with my Mother's side of the family. I can understand basic Hokkien (which is a dialect of chinese spoken in Malaysia) which is very different from Mandarin. However, I have the ability to hear several tones in the same 'word' and understand them as separate meanings.
I am willing to dedicate 2 hours a week to learning (and several hours of practice / homework)
I would like to do a few trial lessons and then determine a longer-term commitment after a trial period of about 4 weeks. Sunday mornings 10am-Noon at my apartment at the South End of Halifax. (-:
If there is a suitable (female) instructor interested, please contact me.
