Hello,
My name is Ayanna, and I would like to further my understanding of Japanese. I have taken afew semesters of the language at college, so I know the basics. I would like to attain a level of conversation though, as well as learn more kanji. I have a somewhat difficult time with the normal conversationa l speed of Japanese, more so than actually understanding the words, but I would really like to increase my vocaulary as well.
At present, I try to teach myself and adjust my ear to conversation speed with DVDs and music. I think I require a patient teacher, as I am kind of shy. Once I become comfortable though, I try much harder to communicate.
I have Japanese friends, and when I go to Japan again I do not want to take a long time to respond their questions. These are the goals I hope my teacher and I can accomplish, and I promise I will be the best student I can be.

I lived in Japan and worked for GEOS as an English conversation teacher for a year and a half but unfortunately didn't take advantage of learning much Japanese while I was there.
Now I'm committed to learning Japanese so I can go back and have a more immersed experience in Japan. I am interested in learning conversation as well as reading and writing. Now, I would say I know many words in Japanese, but can't really constuct sentences. My listening ability is much better than my speaking.
I am looking for a teacher who can work with me intensively, a few times a week, for as long as I am in the Baltimore area. I want someone who is both professional and friendly and will push me to do my best and stay focused.

I am a travelling archaeologist and I will be in Baltimore for two more weeks. I am also studying Mandarin and go to school in Hangzhou. I have studied Mandarin for one University semester with additional study during previous travel.
