Hi,
I am a beginner level student of Persian and post-intermad iate student of English. I would like to improve my Persian especially in conversation and grammer in order to read and speak well. In this summer I have only one and a half month to dedicate for in person lessons, however I can dedicate more time for online lessons. I am looking for to find a teacher who is native speaker and has teaching experience.

Dear Farsi Teacher,
I am writing to describe myself by using the prompts given on the web site:
My proficiency level: I am an absolute beginner in Farsi. I have ordered some cassettes, a dictionary, a grammar book and a beginning vocabulary workbook from Amazon so that I can begin to learn the basics. I have been watching Iranian television to hear the sound of the language, and I have been practicing the Arabic alphabet.
I am interested in learning Farsi because I want to test my resolve in pursuing a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies. My long term goal is to study Zoroastrianis m and to be able to read the Mevlana in his original language. My immediate goal is to learn the Farsi alphabet, to practice writing and to learn some basic vocabulary and phrases. Reading and writing are more important to me than conversation skills.
Fo r the Fall semester, I can commit to one (1.5 hour) lesson per week, preferably on the weekend as my teaching load is very heavy during the week (I teach English in a hazirlik program). I have a strong work ethic and welcome homework assignments. I am willing to work one-on-one or in small groups, once a week for this year (2006-07).
The qualities I am looking for in a teacher include someone who is reasonably fluent in English, who has taught absolute beginners before, who knows how to scaffold the lessons (how to create a basic foundation for language learning), and of course someone who wants to work with a serious student.

My persian is between beginner and intermediate. Because I have been living in Los Angeles for a year and most of my friends are persian I know some general things in persian, and i can understand around 30-40% of the things when people speak. I want to learn persian because I think it is very beautiful and useful language. I want to learn to write and read and mainly conversation.
