Description |
Hi. My name is Dolores, and my son attends a cyber school using virtual classes. I am looking for a sign language course for him since the school doesn't have one available. The school is willing to work with anyone qualified so that he would get credit for it. The reason sign language was chosen for his foreign language is because he is in the Autistic spectrum. He is very high functioning, but learning a foreign language would be difficult. I would probably have to seen what I would have to do to be excused from it. I didn't want to cause major distress for a language he may never use, but sign language is used all the time. All of us in our family have some knowledge of sign language. My husband more than the rest. A couple years ago we talked about it, and his occupational therapist said that it would be great OT for him. His speech therapist also agreed that it would be good for him. I just seem to have a problem with finding someone to teach him. Can you help?

I have been wanting to learn ASL for quite awhile now. Due to other circumstances I am noe 49 years old and still have this passion for this language. Seems this is the only language in which all emotions are to be spoken with expression of hands body and soul. Would like to use this skill to deliever stories to others thru the body and hands and expression. Please advise on what teacher are in my area. Thank you,
Debra Lewis

I am a american sign language interpreter. I have had deaf students take spanish for the last 6 years and I have interpreted the classes using Mexican sign language. I have been teaching myself out of a book but would really like to take classes in this field so that I am using it properly. I am interested in doing a language abroad program next summer, which specifically teaches spanish as well as mexican sign language anywhere in the country. If you know of any programs would you please contact me and let me know. Thank you so much for your time concerning this matter.

Good Afternoon! I am interested in becoming 'fluent' in sign language for several reasons, both personal and professional. I am an anesthesiolog ist working at a large medical center. I have come in contact with an increasing number of deaf patients who come for surgery. I want to be able to communicate with them without the need to call for an interpreter. It is my belief that by communicating with a deaf patient in their native language I will establish a better repour and level of trust with that person. I have always been interested in sign language and took some beginner summer courses several years ago. I think it is a beautiful language. While in residency, I didn't have the time to fully dedicate studying and practicing. Now that I am finished with residency and working full time, I have more free time. It has always been a goal of mine to learn sign language. Now that I have encountered more deaf patients in my line of work, I am more determined than ever to be able to communicate with them.
