Hello!
I have recently decided to invest some time in learning German & Italian, and I am looking for private or small group classes with teachers of these two languages. My native language is Portuguese, and I also speak French. A lot of what I appreciate in arts, music and literature come from the languages cited above, and I would like to learn them well. (I am beginner in both languages, even if the Italian feels a bit closer to 'home'). I truly believe that learning a language goes beyond learning its structure but it should rather be taken as a whole social / cultural approach. Being a native speaker is NOT essential for me. Being a language teacher is. If you are a non-native teacher who knows German and/or Italian well, please contact me. If you are a native teacher, better yet! =)

I am planning to travel to the Ukraine. I have very little knowledge of Russian, so I'm an absolute beginning. I'm interested in conversationa l Russian. I'm a relatively recent college graduate who took about two and a half years of Russian classes at Rice University. I also spent a semester in St. Petersburg, where I further developed my speaking, reading, and writing skills. But this was two years ago and I feel as though I've forgotten everything I learned. I don't have any particular reason for wishing to continue with Russian, except that I really enjoyed learning the language. I also intend to eventually pursue a Master's/PhD in Comparative Literature, which necessitates a proficient degree of knowledge in at least two languages other the English, so I'd like to focus especially on reading, writing, and grammar. I do think, however, that my speaking skills are the weakest. Ideally, I want a teacher who is patient and understanding , has a robust sense of humor, and is not afraid to push his or her pupils to the highest level of their abilities. I would ideally like to dedicate 2-3 hours a week of instruction. I work from 9-5 Mon-Fri, so I am free all evenings and anytime weekends.
