I am a Canadian born citizen and now living in Hanoi, Vietnam. I have a desire and commitment to learn chinese mandarin. I am interested in a linguistics career. I would like to learn Japanese and Mandarin in preparation and so I can easily live in China or Japan. I have beginner-inte rmediate fluency of Japanese (I'd previously taken it for 2 years) and no Mandarin proficiency. I would like to reach perfect fluency in both languages; in speaking, listening, writing, and reading. I have plenty of time in the week to study and do homework. I am interested in 2 hours of 1-on-1 instruction of each per week. I need an instructor who can be very personalized.

Q: Why you are learning your foreign language (e.g., career advancement, etc.).
A: These lessons are for my son, Bruce, who is six years old and in first grade.
Q: Your proficiency level (e.g., beginner, etc.).
A: Bruce's proficiency level is high. As his mother, I have been speaking mandarin with him since he was born, however, his English is better than his mandarin and I want to make sure that his mandarin does not fall behind.
Q; The areas in which you feel you need particular improvement (e.g., grammar, conversation, etc.), if any.
A: All area need improvement and practice, especially conversationa l mandarin.
Q: How much time you want to dedicate to your language lessons.
A: Two hours per week or more.
Q: What qualities you are looking for in your lessons or in your teacher.
A: Since my son is young, I am looking for a teacher who is kind, yet firm. Someone with a good personality is a big plus. My son is very outgoing and not shy. He is a fast learner and very curious. He loves stories and has a big imagination.

I want to learn CHinese,Manda rin for career development. I have work for three years in Taiwan as an operator and was able to learn few words already, but i still feel the need to learn the Chinese,Manda rin more for my career enhancement. I think i could spend my 2-3 hours on Saturday or Sunday. I want a teacher who could correct my bad Mandarin Language.
