I am a beginner. I wish to learn Cantonese because I wish to take trips to China/Taiwan and because Cantonese is fast growing language I wish to learn the language for business purposes. I also wish to learn a second language as my first language is English and wish to become bi-lingual. I wish to dedicate about 10 hours a week. i can speak and understand basic cantonese and would like to become fluent. I need to improve my conversation and am less interested (at least now) in reading/writi ng. I would like to dedicate as much time as it will take but can only do nights (ideally after 8pm) on weekdays or weekends due to work.

I am a beginner attempting to learn Cantonese by listening to CD's. This technique is not progressing as I hoped it would. It seems all I am doing is memorizing short phrases. The reason for learning this language is my fiance is Cantonese and I wish to be able to converse more fluently with her. I need help in all aspects to learn this language. I would devote as much time as needed to accomplish this goal. Please help!
